When Josh Groban’s out of The Great Comet next year, you may just catch another star. Broadway.com has confirmed that Dave Malloy, composer of Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, will step in for headliner Groban for ten performances in 2017. As recently announced, Groban is scheduled to take his final bow at the Imperial Theatre on July 2, 2017.
The composer will step in for Groban from May 4 through May 9, as well as May 16, June 13, June 20 and June 27. Like Groban, the show marks his Broadway debut.
Malloy played the title role in the original Ars Nova presentation in 2012 and in the Meatpacking District in 2013. His additional composing and performing credits include Ghost Quartest, Preludes, Don’t Stop Me and Black Wizard/Blue Wizard.
Directed by Rachel Chavkin, The Great Comet is inspired by an excerpt of War and Piece and immerses audiences in a story of young love-turned-epic romance.
The current cast of The Great Comet also includes Denée Benton as Natasha, Lucas Steele as Anatole, Brittain Ashford as Sonya, Gelsey Bell as Princess Mary, Nicholas Belton as Bolkonsky/Andrey, Nick Choksi as Dolokhov, Amber Gray as Helene, Grace McLean as Marya D and Paul Pinto as Balaga.
